Things To Remember In Purchasing Wholesale Costume Jewelry

By Jaclyn Hurley

Reproduced jewelries which are mostly molded from original items have been sold everywhere. You will be stumbling with different versions and designs of these costume jewels from shops in different states in the United States. Most likely, these items are also produced and assembled overseas before being sold in the country. Many of these are copied from original brands in various designs and styles.

You can identify if a wholesale costume jewelry have been reproduced from an original brand by its size alone. Mostly these will be bigger than their counterparts because of their larger molders. You can accurately do this by having a reference such as a book or you can ask a friend for an expert advice.

Aside from the size, the thickness of the treatment can also be an identification for newer copies. Replicated models may have monotone qualities without any integration of softer shadings and could even look like low end according to some people. These may also be gilded with vermillion, bronze, and silver and could made of plastic as well.

Another accurate indicator if you are serious in this matter is the mark that is on the jewelry itself. You may need deeper and updated knowledge on company markings though because this could change from time to time. A company line might be different now compared to its previous years.

These differences come up because originally they are hand made until such have been reproduced massively. Specifically, the mounting on most of the reproduce items are casted and molded while the originals have separate mountings soldered together to make it one piece.

This is the reason why most mass manufactured versions often have tighter appearance while the latter have lighter looks. Probably, the former are manufactured with mountings that has little space in between. Moreover, if you can examine the prongs of the item that you have right now, you will either observe it is thinly or thickly created.

To explain further, thick prongs are indicators that the jewelry is mass produced. It has such characteristic to firmly hold the stone together with the mount. In fact, these will often extend right up to the girdles. Conversely, vintage jewelry will have a thinner prong structure in order to display the beauty of the stones.

Moreover, mass manufactured jewelry will have unbent prongs because of production efficiency reasons. It is quite easy to just glue those stones directly than to spend time in bending prongs to give it a firmer hold. On one hand, originals will have bent prongs which are intentionally created to securely hold its stones.

If you are planning to buy stuff on a jewelry store, decide whether you like to settle for an original or for a replicated. The thin line that separate both of these is the quality and price can quite be different. It is okay to buy any of these as long as you know you get the value for what you are paying. It would be disappointing to know that you tried to pay for an original price but you got a reproduced item.
