Fun Easy Diy Projects To Do Quick

By Jaclyn Hurley

Becoming a home owner for the first time is a huge step in most people's lives. But after the initial euphoria wears off they are faced with the fact that sooner or later work will need to be done on their home. Either they can pay someone else to do it or they can learn how to do some fun easy DIY projects themselves and save some money.

Not only does it save money but doing your own home improvements also creates a wonderful sense of achievement. This is especially true for those who may be a little nervous because they have never tackled this type of job before. There is plenty of help available in the form of books, DVD tutorials and even YouTube videos. Of course, asking an experienced friend to come over and lend a hand is also a great idea.

The key to success really is with good planning. If possible as much of the furniture as possible should be removed from the room. This makes it so much easier to work in. Strong plastic drop clothes are also necessary as they protect the floor and carpeting. The walls and wood work need to be washed with a light cleaning solution to remove dust and other debris. Any dents or rough patches should also be sanded down to provide a smooth surface.

Installing ceiling fans is a great way to stay cool in summer as well as save some money. Running air conditioning all the time really bumps up the electricity bill. Many people find that they can manage all but the hottest weather with just fans. Most of the big home improvement stores sell a wonderful variety of fans, in different sizes and colors. One of the biggest tasks is to decide exactly which one will work best with the home's decor.

Only a few simple tools are needed to install the fans. Most people are quite surprised how quickly they can accomplish this project, even if it is their first every DIY job. The kit will come instructions on how to connect the wires correctly to ensure that everything runs properly and is safe.

Assembling your own furniture is also a great way to get started and save money. There are many stores that sell great pieces of household furniture that need to be put together by the home owner. Most projects require very few tools and some of the smaller ones come with a small wrench. If the item is large an extra pair of hands will be very helpful.

Once the item is assembled it will often need to be painted, stained or varnished. This presents a great opportunity for the home owner to really get creative. They can stick with the basics and add a neutral stain with several coats of varnish for a classic look. Or be a little more daring and try to do paint and stenciling. This is a wonderful idea especially for a child's room. They will love their own customized dresser or desk.

The biggest thing to remember is to be bold and try. Many people are too hesitant and afraid of failure. They should just keep in mind the old saying nothing ventured, nothing gained.
