Tips On Abstract Digital Photography

By Angela Briggs

In this digital age, there are a lot more opportunities to create an interesting photograph than there were, before. Obviously, a digital camera means that it is much easier to take vacation pictures and holiday pictures. However, abstract digital photography is something that is easier to explore than ever before.

You can create something that is both unique and interesting using different methods and techniques. A fascinating spin can be given to something that would usually be boring or ordinary with the use of different things. Perspective is one thing that can be played with, here.

Take a picture from a different angle than you might usually to give the subject a very different look. The goal here, perhaps, is to bring out something in the subject that usually would not be seen. Perhaps you show something new by taking a photo from the bottom or the top. Something small appears to be large, and this can drastically alter the factors that are most apparent when you are viewing it as you usually would.

Making a large object look smaller will, of course, be harder to achieve but, if you do, then you will find that this can go both ways. An altered perspective means that different things stand out. Texture is also something that you can play with, here, especially with distance, as well. A close-up will let you see the subject in its detail. It might no longer look like you think it should.

You might even say that it appears to be a different object, altogether, from this new view. Another thing you will probably want to take into consideration is color. This is useful as a tool as it will influence the tone and the mood of the piece and can also contribute to the focus. You can experiment, here, especially since you do not have to be realistic. For example, you could create a single mood or a contrast by setting different colors together.

Things could also be shown in colors that you are not used to seeing on them. This can make a very drastic difference to their usual appearance. Another thing to take a lot at is selective focus, and it, of course, is something specific to working with cameras. With this, you are able to filter through to a specific area of the subject.

It could, perhaps, be a part of the subject that would not usually be focused on, hence giving it a very different appearance. The way this works, of course, is to blur everything else and give the focal point sharp definition. This technique can also be used in tandem with color and other things. For example, you could use a similar or contrasting shade for the background to help further manipulate the focus.

Shapes can also be of use, here, too. The appearances of the subject can change quite a lot with the right application of light or perspective. To highlight curves or straight lines, you can use contrasting shapes to do so. Have a look around to find different ideas for methods that can be used to make the unique photos you want to with abstract digital photography.
