Steps On Stamp Appraisals And Advantages

By Margaret Johnson

There are a lot of people whose hobbies are collecting. They range from coins, bugs and even to stamps. They get to admire the designs and even learn the back stories of these stamps. They can get to learn the values of the stamps by conducting Stamp appraisals. They get to appreciate the stamps all the more and can know what deals to expect if they were ever to sell them.

The first thing you do is stare at the centring of the design. This is basically observing how the design appears on the earmark. It is best when the design is right in the middle of the white borders as it gets a neat look. You should also turn over the brand to see that the glue has been properly distributed. You want it to be completely uniform.

Some very minor things may cause a brand to lose its value if they are not present. Such is the case of a missing cast hinge. This is a little thin piece of paper attached to the back of the stamp. It is used by the collector to attach the brand to the album. It may not seem like much but it is actually important. Before removing it, it is best to seek help from a earmark dealer to avoid causing damage.

You should observe the perforations on the brand. This is the little-punched holes in the boundaries of the brand. The nearer they are, the more value your earmark will have. Another important thing is the termination mark on the brand. This is usually put when the brand has been used. The thicker it is laid on the earmark the more value the earmark loses.

As aforementioned, the cast design should be well-centred. This determines the heaviness of the termination mark. If it is not properly centered and the mark is too heavy, the value drops. The grades of the stamps range from poor to superb. The colouring of the brand is also important. A fading cast is not very valuable compared to a brightly coloured one.

Finding the origin of the brand is also important. This can be done by looking for historical events and even unique words. If you can understand the words, it will be easier on you to narrow down the country. The same case applies with the age of the earmark. You still have to find the clue in the design. The older the brand, the higher the value.

How rare the brand is also determining the value? yes. A lot of collectors actually believe that the rarity is the single most important determinant of the value of a earmark. Rarity is also determined by how many of the earmarks were printed out. Even if it is old, it is valueless if they were many of them. You can confirm with a brand dealer or use a reference book.

There are error stamps. They actually sound like a bad thing but they are the most valuable stamps. This is because the designs usually have some sort of error. They are therefore very scarce and about only 50-100 of them exist.
