Those who want to decorate a room in earth or neutral tones may want to go with a faux fur or sheepskin rug that is cream or dark grey in color. White rugs are best in low traffic areas of the home or is easy to clean. However, for a more eclectic look, primary or vibrant colors may be used to complement the paint and furnishings in an interior space.

For people who do not care to have real animal fur, this is a great choice because the look and feel can be deceiving. The synthetic materials used can also make storage easy and sometimes people may own more than one faux fur rug to change the look of a room, as needed. Many will find that the selection depends on the look they are aiming for.

For instance, rooms with a modern or sleek look can have a large textured rug to offset the straight lines. If the theme is casual or folksy, a rug with the look of mink may not be out of place. It can take a moment to experiment and find a unique feel, even if it means hanging a rug on a wall instead of the floor.

Anyone without a clue as to the direction they should take may want to look online for inspiration. There are many social media sites with ideas and tips that cost nothing. Many of these deal with common situations like small spaces, dealing with walls, or choosing the right color theme combination. By looking up a color wheel, one can see the many possibilities.

Ideally, an area rug is made to take a generous amount of floor space to preserve the carpet or wood underneath. But a nice rug can be trimmed to accentuate a large piece of furniture or as a plush seat near a fireplace or bay window. If foot traffic is a concern, some fabrics can handle a protectant that keeps dirt stains from setting into fibers.

By exploring what books, magazines, and websites have to offer, one can find a look that will satisfy their needs. After a while, others may think that a trained interior decorator was used.
