TV: Have You Been Watching Addiction Shows Lately?

By Apple Palo

Drug and alcohol addiction is no source of entertainment. However, many television shows are covering drug and alcohol treatment. These shows help addicts to see that their lives need to change on a regular basis. The problem with most addicts today is that they don't know how to get themselves sober. A lot of addicts cannot afford to go to an inpatient treatment center. Most treatment centers costs around $30,000. Medical billers across the United States are trying to help addicts to get the help that they need. However, it's difficult when insurance companies don't want to pay for treatment.

If you watch addiction on television, you may assume that it's easy to go through. Many addicts make it seem easy on television. All that you have to do is get yourself into a rehab and then 30 days later, you are drug and alcohol free. However, most addicts don't tell you all of the "red tape" that is involved in getting sober. For starters, addicts have to find the discipline enough to get into a treatment program that works best for them. Addicts across the world often have to go through rehab at least 2 or 5 times before they choose to live a sober life.

All across the USA, medical billing companies are having a difficult time getting people into their programs. They often argue that it's because insurance companies are not covering alcohol and drug treatment effectively. If a person has an out of pocket deductible for $5,000, they often cannot go to rehab. The reason is because they don't have $5,000 in their bank account to pay for treatment. After all, most addicts are living on the streets and often stealing money from their family members. It is hard to imagine yourself being addicted and having no true foundation for treatment.

Television shows often like to tell you the story of the addict. They often showcase addicts on television that are going through a rough time emotionally. Perhaps they have turned to a life of drugs and alcoholism. They often don't tell you that they cannot get into rehab because they don't have the right medical insurance. Medical billers will tell you that addicts are often living on the streets because they cannot afford to get into a rehab program. Rehab takes time and lots of discipline. It takes a lot of strong effort to figure out how you can become drug and alcohol free. However, most insurances that people have do not pay for rehab.

Alcohol and drug addiction is often something that most people do not want to talk about. It is something that shames a lot of families. However, once the problem is dealt with, addicts often find it easier to put the pieces to the puzzle together. Life is often hard for addicts. When you watch them on television struggling with their addiction, it is hard and often painful. You can often see yourself jumping out of your chair to help them. However, the war on drugs is alive in America today. Millions of men and women suffer from addiction. The problem only seems to be getting worse. The country must come together and take a stand against drugs.
