Leather products are extremely popular despite the fact that they require special treatment. This is why creams like Venetian shoe cream have been around for as long as they have because they making caring for leather that much easier. The best products for shoes do not only clean and polish but condition and protect as well. Such products are available from local and online stores in many different sizes and containers.

Leather differs greatly from synthetic materials and its care is quite different. As it was once part of a living animal, it cannot be without some form of lubrication or it simply dries out and will crack before too long due to fibers breaking down. Lubricating it enables it to breathe and stay flexible and soft.

Shoes are made of many different types of leather. Calf skin is a favorite but the hides of horses, goats and even reptiles like crocodiles are also used. Cheap shoes are a false bargain and are usually made of rubber, glue and low-grade leather. The type of product used to care for shoes differs according to the leather used.

Some products combine ingredients such as cleaning ingredients, waxes and fine oils. The cleaning ingredients should not contain artificial thickeners or harsh chemicals that could harm the leather. However, they need to be effective enough to get rid of any stains, dirt and polish that may have built up. The waxes are used to produce shine and oils soak into the leather so that it can breathe.

When considering such products, ease of application is important. A product with a thicker consistency is easier to apply. Products usually have to be shaken before use to achieve the right consistency and might otherwise appear too thin and watery. Only a small amount of product is necessary and any excess does not improve the effect and takes longer to dry. What is most desirable is a nice even application with enough moisture for a good shine.

These products come in a variety of colors. The color chosen should be as close to the color of the leather as possible. A neutral one may be used too and this is often the best choice for two tone shoes. The color should not change the original finish too much although it could darken it a little.

Shoes can be expensive and keeping them in top condition means that they will last for longer. Even older shoes that are looking dull may respond to treatment with a good product. Frequent use can add years to leather items and help protect and prevent scuffs and scratches.

Shoes are often an essential part of any outfit. They are usually a savvy style investment and chosen with great care. Selecting the products to use on them deserves as much care. Treating them well means that they will be a part of your wardrobe for many years to come and maybe even for a lifetime.
